Casino Rama Resort has been a fixture of Ontario’s cottage country since 1996. It sits on Chippewas of Rama First Nation land near Orillia, about an hour and a half north of Toronto, and it’s the casino to choose if you’d rather be near a lake than a city. In July 2026 it marked 30 years, with more than 76 million visits reported.
The resort has also spent the last two years being renovated, so if you haven’t been in a while, it may not look the way you remember.

Who Runs Casino Rama
Three parties are involved, and older articles can be confusing. The land belongs to the Chippewas of Rama First Nation. OLG conducts and manages gaming. Gateway Casinos has run the casino day to day since July 18, 2018, under a 23-year agreement. The casino’s site now carries Gateway’s My Club Rewards program.
The Gaming Floor
The casino lists more than 1,500 slots, from traditional reels and progressives to multi-denomination machines, video poker and electronic table games. A refit reported in 2021 planned to remove about 400 slots and 20 tables, so older, higher counts are out of date.
Live games include blackjack, roulette, baccarat and Pai Gow, and there’s a High Limits Room for bigger stakes. Casino Rama says table games are open 24/7, but it asks you to call to confirm which ones are running. Hold’em poker has a dedicated call-in number and asks you to check in within two hours.

The Renovation
A major refurbishment began in late 2024 as a joint effort between Gateway, OLG and the Rama First Nation. It has covered hotel rooms, the spa and fitness centre, the gaming floor and common areas. All 292 suites are now described as newly renovated, and a local tourism body says the refresh wraps up in 2026.
Hotel, Food and Entertainment
The hotel is all suites, with fireplaces and sitting areas in the standard rooms and separate bedrooms in the Parlour Suites. There’s a pool, a spa and a seasonal patio. Dining runs from the Couchiching Court Buffet to ATLAS steak + fish, with lounges such as The Weirs and Firestarter.
The Entertainment Centre hosts touring acts through the year. Check the casino’s calendar before you book, because show nights change how busy the resort gets.
