That combination gives it real advantages and real risks. This review tries to be straight about both.
Quick take: Stake suits experienced players who already use crypto and value speed: crypto withdrawals land in minutes, the in-house Originals games are unlike anything at a conventional casino, and rakeback and races reward regular play. Alberta is the big change. Stake Canada Ltd, a subsidiary of the Easygo group, received its registration ahead of the province’s October 13 deadline for operators to leave Alberta’s unregulated market. A licensed Stake in Alberta means provincial player protections and a provincial regulator, but also Alberta’s rules: different bonuses, different tools, and casino and sportsbook only at launch, with no poker.
Outside Ontario and Alberta, stake.com occupies the same legal position as other offshore casinos. It is not licensed by any province, and individual players are not prosecuted for using sites like it. Our comparison of provincially regulated and offshore casinos explains that grey area properly.
Ontario: any operator serving Ontario must be registered with the AGCO, and Stake is not yet. It says it has submitted its documents and built an in-house platform for the province, and reports expect an Ontario launch before the end of 2026, but it is not in iGaming Ontario’s directory today. Licensing and Trust: What a Curaçao Licence Means
stake.com is operated by Medium Rare N.V. under Curaçao Gaming Authority licence OGL/2024/1451/0918, issued under Curaçao’s reformed licensing system in 2025. Payments are handled through an associated company, Medium Rare Limited, in Cyprus. Curaçao licenses a large share of the crypto casinos Canadians see advertised. Its system has been centralised and tightened, but it remains the regulator with the least consistent record of intervening on a player’s behalf.
It is also worth knowing that in September 2026, leaked Curaçao regulator files reported by several industry publications showed Stake’s licence had been issued conditionally while questions about its ultimate ownership were still being clarified. The regulator has defended its phased approach. Nothing in the reporting suggests a problem with player payouts, but it is a reminder of how much lighter offshore oversight is.
In practical terms:
- There is no Canadian body to complain to if a withdrawal is refused on stake.com.
- Rules on separating player funds and resolving disputes are weaker than under the Malta Gaming Authority or a provincial regulator.
- Your main protection is the operator’s own reputation, which in Stake’s case is substantial but is not the same as a legal guarantee.

Stake Originals and “Provably Fair” Games
The Originals are the reason many players choose Stake. These are simple, fast games built in-house, including Crash, Plinko, Mines, Dice and newer titles such as Drill, around twenty in all. They look nothing like slots. Rounds last seconds, the rules fit in a sentence, and the house edge is typically low and stated openly; Drill, for example, is listed at 98% RTP.
They are also described as provably fair. Each result is generated using a cryptographic method you can check afterwards, so you do not have to take the casino’s word that the outcome was not altered. One caution. Provably fair proves the result was not tampered with. It does not make the game profitable. The house still has an edge, and because rounds are so quick, you can place hundreds of bets in a few minutes. Speed is the real risk with these games. Set a limit before you start.
