Anjouan is one of the islands of the Comoros, off the east coast of Africa, and in the past few years it has become one of the fastest-growing sources of online casino licences. As Curacao tightened its rules, some operators moved here, and you will now see the Anjouan seal in many casino footers. It is a real licence. How much it protects you is a much harder question.
Quick answer: An Anjouan licence comes from a regulator in the Comoros and is cheap and quick for operators to get. It is the weakest licence we regularly see at Canadian-facing casinos, because there is little independent evidence of how it handles player complaints. Licences can be checked on the regulator’s validator, but only through the casino’s own seal link. Ontario and Alberta players should use provincial sites.
Why So Many Casinos Now Use Anjouan
- Cost and speed. Anjouan is widely marketed to operators as a fast, low-cost route to a licence.
- Curacao’s reforms. Stricter rules there pushed some brands to look elsewhere.
- Wide market use. The licence lets operators serve many countries, although the regulator itself has said it is not a universal permit to operate everywhere.
The regulator says it tightened its licence conditions after an international anti-money-laundering report in 2026, and it has warned about third parties selling fake licences in its name. Reporters have also raised concerns about the speed at which licences were issued. So far we have not seen independent data on how it enforces its rules or resolves player complaints.
How to Verify an Anjouan Licence
This is more awkward than it should be. Anjouan’s validator needs a domain, a seal ID and a stamp code, and those are built into the seal on the casino’s own site.
- Click the Anjouan seal in the casino’s footer.
- Check where it goes. The address should be on the regulator’s verification domain, not a look-alike.
- Read the result. It should show a valid status, a licence number starting ALSI, and the list of excluded countries.
- Check the domain matches the casino you are actually on.
Do not rely on typing a casino’s domain into the validator by hand: without the seal details, it shows every domain as invalid, including genuine licensees. A static image of a seal that does not link anywhere is a warning sign.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is an Anjouan gaming licence?
A licence issued by the gaming regulator of Anjouan, an island in the Comoros, to online gambling operators.
Is an Anjouan licence legit?
It is a real licence, but there is little independent evidence of how strongly it protects players.
How do I check an Anjouan licence?
Click the seal on the casino’s site. It should open the regulator’s validator and show a valid status and an ALSI licence number.
Why does the validator say invalid?
A domain typed in by hand shows invalid for every casino. The check needs the seal details from the casino’s own link.
Are Anjouan casinos safe for Canadians?
Treat them with caution. Keep deposits small, read the terms, and test a withdrawal early.
Is Anjouan better than Curacao?
Curacao’s reformed system publishes clearer registers, so we rate it slightly higher.
Can Canadians play at Anjouan casinos?
Many accept Canadians outside Ontario, but check the site. Ontario and Alberta players should use provincial sites.
Who can help with an Anjouan casino complaint?
Contact the casino first, then the regulator. Results are not well documented, so keep full records.
