Android gives casino players more choice than iPhone, and more ways to get it wrong. In Ontario and Alberta you can download licensed casino apps straight from Google Play. Everywhere else in Canada, Google only allows real money casino apps from government operators, so most casinos either run in Chrome or offer their app as a file you download from their website. That file, an APK, is where Android’s freedom turns into risk.
This page covers which casinos have genuine Android apps, how to judge an APK download, how to set up a casino in Chrome so it feels like an app, and which payment methods work best on Android. For a broader comparison across every device, see our guide to mobile casino apps in Canada.
Quick answer: In Ontario or Alberta, install a licensed casino app from Google Play, such as BetRivers, BetMGM or Casino Days. Elsewhere in Canada, the safest option is the casino’s website in Chrome, installed to your home screen. Only install a casino APK if it comes from the casino’s own verified website, and never from a third-party download site.
Android Casinos for Players Outside Ontario and Alberta
About this list. Our general picks for the rest of Canada, ranked by overall review score. They all work in Chrome on Android phones and tablets. Ontario and Alberta players should use the licensed Google Play apps listed below.
What Google Play Allows in Canada
Google publishes a country-by-country list of where real money gambling apps are allowed and who may publish them. For Canada, it splits the country three ways:
| Where you are | Who can publish casino apps on Google Play | What that means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Ontario | Licensed private operators, as well as government operators | Many AGCO-registered brands have Play Store apps |
| Alberta | Covered by its own entry since the regulated market opened in July 2026 | AGLC-licensed brands, including BetMGM and DraftKings, launched apps on day one |
| The rest of Canada | Government operators only | Provincial lottery corporations can list apps; private and offshore casinos cannot |
Apps must also carry a responsible gambling statement with local support contacts and block users outside the licensed area. That is why a licensed Ontario app checks your location and stops working when you cross into Quebec. For what each province’s regulator actually does, see our explainer on provincial and offshore casinos.

Casino APKs: What to Know Before You Install One
An APK is an Android app file installed directly rather than through Google Play. Some offshore casinos offer one because they cannot list a real money app on Google Play for Canadian players outside Ontario and Alberta. Our reviews found Android apps at Dream Vegas, which has no iPhone app, and Leon. Under Google’s rules, a casino app like that can only reach Canadians outside those two provinces as a direct download.
Installing one is legal and can be done safely, but you lose protections that come with Google Play:
- No store review. Google has not checked the app before it reaches you. Play Protect can still scan it, but that is a lighter check.
- Fake copies. The biggest risk is not the real casino’s APK but a modified copy posted on a download site, built to steal logins or card details.
- Manual updates. Some APKs update themselves; others need reinstalling, and an out-of-date app can miss security fixes.
- Broad permissions. A casino app needs internet access, and location if it is licensed somewhere that requires it. It should not need your contacts, SMS or accessibility settings.
Google is also changing the rules. Since September 30, 2026, certified Android phones in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand only install apps from developers registered with Google, with an advanced option left for experienced users. Google plans to roll this out globally in 2027. Once it reaches Canada, APKs from unregistered developers will become harder to install.
A Safe APK Checklist
- Download only from the casino’s own website, reached by typing its address yourself.
- Confirm the casino’s licence before installing anything. Our explainer on checking whether an online casino is legitimate shows how.
- Allow “install unknown apps” for your browser only for the install, then switch it off again in Settings.
- Review the permissions the app asks for, and refuse anything that doesn’t fit a casino.
- Keep Play Protect switched on.
If any step feels uncertain, skip the APK. The browser version of the same casino has the same games and cashier.
Playing in Chrome: The Safer Alternative
For most Android users outside Ontario and Alberta, Chrome is the better route. Casino sites are built for mobile first, update themselves each time you open them, and need no permissions beyond what a website gets. You can still give a casino its own icon:
- Open the casino’s real address in Chrome.
- Tap the three-dot menu and choose Add to Home screen, or Install app if the site offers it.
- Open it from the new icon. It runs full screen, like an app.
- Let your phone’s fingerprint or face unlock fill in your saved password, and use a unique password for each casino.

Best Payment Methods on Android
| Method | Why it suits Android | Things to know |
|---|---|---|
| Interac e-Transfer | Approve the payment in your banking app in seconds | The most widely accepted method in Canada and usually bonus-eligible |
| MuchBetter | A phone-first e-wallet with biometric approval | Some casinos exclude e-wallets from bonuses |
| Paysafecard | Enter a voucher code; no bank details on your phone | Deposit only, so you need a second method to withdraw |
| PayPal | One-tap approval in the PayPal app | Mainly at Ontario and Alberta licensed casinos |
A few licensed Ontario casinos also take Google Pay; our page on Google Pay casinos in Canada lists where it works.
Android Phones, Tablets and Performance
Android covers everything from budget phones to flagship foldables, and casino performance varies more than on iPhone. Slots and RNG table games run on almost any phone with a current version of Chrome. Live dealer games are the demanding part: streams need a stable connection and enough memory to keep the video smooth, and older budget phones can stutter. Our guide to mobile slots covers which games suit smaller screens, and our comparison of live casinos in Canada covers streaming quality.
Tablets and foldables make a real difference for live tables and multi-hand games. If you play online blackjack with a strategy chart open, a larger screen lets you keep both in view.
Android vs iPhone for Casino Players
Android is more open: licensed apps where allowed, browser play everywhere, and APKs as an extra option with extra risk. iPhone has no APK route at all, which makes it simpler and, for most players, a little safer. Our page on iPhone casinos in Canada covers the Apple side.
How We Test Android Casinos
We check whether a casino has a Google Play app and in which provinces, whether it offers an APK and where from, and how the site runs in Chrome on a current Android phone, from registration to withdrawal. Licence, payouts and complaints come from our full reviews, using our review methodology.
Keep Limits on Your Phone
Android’s Digital Wellbeing tools can set daily time limits for Chrome or a casino app, and work well alongside the casino’s own deposit limits. If gambling on your phone is becoming hard to put down, free help is listed on our page about responsible gambling in Canada.
Written by Liam Lambert, OCCG casino reviewer. App availability comes from our individual reviews and Google Play, and Google’s policy from its published gambling app rules, checked October 21, 2026. If an app has launched or disappeared, let us know.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I download real money casino apps on Android in Canada?
From Google Play, yes in Ontario and Alberta, where licensed private operators can publish apps. Elsewhere in Canada, Google Play only allows government operators’ gambling apps, so you play in Chrome or, at some casinos, through an APK download.
Are casino APKs safe?
An APK from a licensed casino’s own website can be, but it skips Google Play’s review. Fake copies on third-party download sites are a real risk. If in doubt, use the casino in Chrome instead.
Which Android casino app is best in Ontario?
BetRivers, BetMGM, LeoVegas and Casino Days all have strong Android apps in Ontario. Choose based on what you play most: live tables, slots, fast withdrawals or rewards.
Why does my Ontario casino app stop working in another province?
Licensed apps must block play outside the province they are licensed for, so they check your location. The account still exists, but you can only play while you are back in the province.
Is there a difference between a casino app and the mobile site?
Licensed apps add conveniences such as notifications and biometric login. The games, bonuses and cashier are usually the same as the mobile site, and some apps carry a slightly smaller game selection.
Do Android casino apps cost money?
No. Google requires real money gambling apps on Google Play to be free to download. Deposits go through the casino’s own cashier.
Will Android’s new developer verification affect casino apps?
Not yet in Canada. It applies in four countries from September 30, 2026, with a global rollout planned for 2027. Google Play apps are unaffected; APKs from unregistered developers will become harder to install.
Can I play on an Android tablet?
Yes. Casino sites and licensed apps work on Android tablets, and the larger screen suits live dealer and table games.
