A free spins casino offer is the most common welcome deal in Canada and the hardest one to compare. “200 free spins” sounds better than “50 free spins”, but the number of spins is often the least important figure in the offer. What each spin is worth, what happens to the winnings and how much you can withdraw matter far more. The 50 spins at one casino we reviewed are worth more in practice than the 500 at another.
This page is about free spins you get for making a deposit, usually as part of a welcome package. We pulled the spin terms from 17 casinos we have reviewed and laid them out side by side, then show you how to work out what any offer is really worth in under a minute.
Three things share the name “free spins”. This page covers deposit free spins, the casino promotion you get for funding your account. If you want spins without depositing, see our page on free spins with no deposit required. If you mean the bonus round inside a slot game, triggered by scatter symbols, that is covered in our explainer on how slot free spins rounds work.
Quick answer: The best free spins offers are the ones with no wagering on winnings, such as PlayOJO‘s 50 spins on a C$10 deposit, paid as cash. Among standard offers, look for 35x wagering or less on spin winnings, a spin value of C$0.10 to C$0.20, no small cap on winnings and enough days to use the spins. Big spin counts with 40x to 60x wagering or a C$20 cap are worth far less than they look.

A few patterns stand out. The Wildz Group casinos (Wildz, Wheelz, Spinz and Caxino) all use 35x on spin winnings and release spins in daily batches, which is fair but means logging in every day. The White Hat Gaming casinos (Casimba, Barz, Casilime and Dream Vegas) fold spin winnings into wagering on the deposit and bonus combined, so the spins are easy to get but expensive to cash out. And the biggest spin counts, 500 at Lucky Spins and Caxino, come with either a short deadline or a total cap, which is how casinos afford them.
How to Work Out What Free Spins Are Really Worth
You need three numbers: the number of spins, the value of each spin, and the wagering on the winnings. Here is the method, using a typical 96% return slot.
- Face value = spins x stake per spin. 100 spins at C$0.10 = C$10.
- Expected winnings = face value x the slot’s return. C$10 x 96% = about C$9.60.
- Expected cost of wagering = winnings x wagering x house edge. C$9.60 x 35 x 4% = about C$13.40.
The result surprises people: with 35x wagering on the winnings, the expected cost of clearing them is larger than what the spins are expected to win. That does not mean the spins cost you money. You are playing with bonus funds, so the most you can lose is the bonus balance itself. What it means is that, on average, most spin winnings are wagered away before you can withdraw them, and the offer pays out mainly when you hit an above-average win early.
Now compare the same 100 spins with different terms:
| Terms on C$9.60 of spin winnings | Wagering required | Typical outcome |
|---|---|---|
| No wagering (cash) | C$0 | About C$9.60 withdrawable on average |
| 10x | C$96 | Most of the winnings usually survive |
| 35x | C$336 | Usually a small amount left, sometimes nothing |
| 60x | C$576 | Usually nothing left unless you hit a big win early |
This is why 50 no-wagering spins at PlayOJO, worth C$5 in stake, often beat several times as many spins with heavy wagering. The same logic, applied to the match part of a welcome offer, is in our explainer on welcome bonus wagering. Our page on slot return to player explains where the 96% and 4% figures come from.
The Terms That Decide a Free Spins Offer
Spin value
Most offers set each spin at the slot’s minimum stake, usually C$0.10, sometimes C$0.20. A few offers let the spins play at a higher value. A spin count without a spin value is half a figure, so look for it in the terms.
Wagering on winnings
The single most important term. No wagering is best, 10x to 20x is good, 35x is standard, 40x to 60x is poor. Watch for wagering that applies to “deposit plus bonus plus spin winnings” combined, as at the White Hat casinos, where the spins effectively inherit the heavy match wagering.
Cap on winnings
Many offers limit what you can withdraw from spin winnings. Casilime’s cap is C$20 per set and SpinsBro’s is C$150, while Caxino caps the whole 500 spins at 1,000 euros. A low cap turns a lucky session into a small fixed payout.
Release schedule and expiry
Spins that arrive 10 or 25 a day must usually be used the same day or within 24 hours. Miss a day and that batch is gone. Barz gives 10 days to use spins, ZetCasino 7, and the Lucky Spins and Casino Days bonuses must be cleared within 7 days. Short deadlines push you to play more than you planned.
Eligible games
Spins are usually locked to one slot, often a popular high-volatility title such as Book of Dead, Big Bass Bonanza or Sweet Bonanza. High volatility means most spin sets pay little and a few pay well. That is not a trick, but it does mean results vary widely.
Maximum bet while wagering
Once spin winnings become bonus money, a maximum bet applies, commonly C$5 to C$7.50 per spin. Breaking it can void the winnings.
Payment method exclusions
Some casinos exclude e-wallet deposits, typically Skrill and Neteller, from welcome offers. Interac is almost always eligible. Check the excluded methods before depositing, because a deposit through an excluded method usually gets no spins and the bonus cannot be added later.
Types of Deposit Free Spins
- Welcome package spins. Added to the first one to five deposits alongside a match bonus. The most common type, and the one in our table.
- Standalone spins offers. Spins instead of a match, such as Mega Casino’s 125 spins. Often better value than the match they replace, as our Mega review found.
- Reload spins. Weekly or weekend spins for a qualifying deposit. MyEmpire, for example, has offered 50 spins for a C$30 deposit from Monday to Thursday.
- Loyalty and wheel spins. Prize wheels and level-up rewards that pay spins for regular play. LuckyDays’ daily Lucky Rewards Wheel pays free spins with no wagering on the winnings.
- No wagering spins. Rarer and smaller, but the winnings are cash. PlayOJO built its whole bonus model around them. Our page on no-wagering casino bonuses covers other wager-free offers.

Free Spins With a Deposit vs No Deposit Free Spins
| Deposit free spins | No deposit free spins | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost to claim | A qualifying deposit, often C$10 to C$20 | Nothing; registration only |
| Typical number | 50 to 500 | 10 to 50 |
| Wagering | Usually 35x to 60x, sometimes none | Often higher, sometimes 60x or more |
| Cap on winnings | Sometimes, often generous | Almost always, often C$50 to C$100 |
| Best for | Players who were going to deposit anyway | Trying a casino with no money at risk |
No deposit spins are a free trial. Deposit spins are a discount on play you were planning anyway. Our page on no deposit casino bonuses covers the no-money options in full, and the sign-up bonus page explains how registration offers differ from deposit offers.
How to Claim Deposit Free Spins
- Read the offer terms first, especially wagering, cap, expiry and excluded payment methods.
- Register and complete identity checks early, so a withdrawal is not held up later.
- Enter any bonus code before or during the deposit. Mega Casino’s spins need code 125MEGA, SlotsMagic’s need MAGIC, and a forgotten code usually cannot be applied afterwards.
- Deposit at least the qualifying amount with an eligible method. Interac casino deposits are the safest choice for bonus eligibility.
- Use the spins on time, including any daily batches.
- Track wagering in your account and stay under the maximum bet until it is complete.
Free Spins in Ontario and Alberta
Licensed casinos in Ontario and Alberta do offer free spins, but provincial rules only allow them to promote those offers on their own sites or to players who have agreed to receive marketing. Comparison sites like ours cannot show them to you, so every offer on this page applies to the rest of Canada only. If you live in either province, check the promotions page after you log in to a licensed site. The spin offers you see on offshore casinos are not available to you, and those casinos are not licensed for your province.
